The third tranche of the IMF loan to SL has been put on hold as the SL govt. has not yet fulfilled the conditions stipulated when the loan of US Dollars 260 lakhs by the IMF was agreed to be granted.  Dr. Beune Aitken the chief representative of the IMF said , the Govt. of SL has failed to take measures to curtail the budget deficit as promised.

So called Mahinda`s Govt. for the poor pampers the powerful tramples the destitute

A few weeks ago the Govt. took stern measures to evict the poor  residents in Slave Island most unceremoniously . Now, these evicted families are roaming the streets without a proper shelter. Their unpretentious shelters were promptly destroyed using bull dozers despite the fact that they have valid documents to prove their ownership rights, as stated by them. They had been in these houses for over several decades , they claim. Some of them filed cases against the illegal eviction.

UNP Deputy leader and MP Karu Jayasooriya speaking at a media briefing today (24) at the UNP media auditorium on the havoc wrought by the torrential rains and the floods , and the acute sufferings of the many thousands of people who have fallen victims , said , at  least at this time of National disaster , the Govt. and its Ministers should act with greater concern and sincerity towards providing relief to the victims rather than providing some lunch packets , water and dry rations , and labor to display their faces in the media while making these meager distributions.

UNP National list M P Swaminathan addressing a media briefing today (20)  at the UNP media unit said , it is the disunity and self centered politicians who sowed it   in the country which, he    led to its devastation and creation  of all evil forces.  The Govt. must take a lesson from the past, and realize that it is by building unity among the people without differences of race , religion  and creed that true re building of the country  can be achieved. Disunity led to destruction. Unity only will lead to construction, he added.
