Addressing a media conference at the UNP media unit today ( 5th) , UNP M.P. Dayasiri Jayasekera said , the President on his  independence day speech harked back to the day SL received its independence on 4th Feb. 1948 , and promised loudly that he would stand by the promises made  on that day . As talk is cheap so are the President’s promises

Dayasiri  pointed out  The whole country and the whole world know that this President has created a record for making the most unfulfilled promises via his Mahinda Chinthana when he came to power four years ago . Hence , by his  promising to stand by the spirit and purpose of independence achieved 62 years ago he has created another record by introducing  the best joke ever  in the universal book of jokes , he stated.

Jokes apart , this President is indeed very serious when it comes to imitating Hitler , Idi Amin and Mugabe .Of course imitations are welcome , even if they are the base counterfeit .But this President’s imitations are  to the detriment of the people and the country , for he is imitating the most ruthless and cruel leaders who did nothing good for their people except to themselves and their selfish power avarice. Let alone  robbing the election victory at the recent Presidential elections  from his rival Gen. Fonseka who is the legitimate winner, he is on a witch hunt against all those who supported Gen. Fonseka . They are being hounded out and attacked .Their houses are being burned . Those Army Officers who supported the General are being sent on compulsory retirement and  are  being arrested on frame ups, he observed.

.There had been over 1000 cases of   political victimization against the opponents  , while the Police too are under political pressure not to  arrest the culprits . All torture methods used by  Idi Amin and other despots are being employed to force opposition parties to join the Rajapakse political camp. The Govt. is sending the Army officers  who are General’s supporters under compulsory leave or punishing them with transfers on the false ground that they engaged in politics. If that is so , on the same token , the first Officer who should be punished is the President’s son Yoshitha Rajapakse who being a Naval Officer took active part in President’s election campaign . To corroborate this Dayasiri displayed a  picture where Yoshitha was openly campaigning for President at the recent elections.
