Opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe  said , the country is stranded at the crossroads of power mania of the rulers who are riding roughshod on the laws , democracy and people’s rights including their fundamental right of  franchise, going by the manner country’s affairs and elections are being conducted .

It is time people united against the power crazy regime which would sell even the country , people and everything  that is Democratic just  for the mere purchase and protection of  the selfish ‘future’ of the despotic rulers.

Unless all unite and end this Authoritarian rule  , the country’s journey on the road to perdition cannot be stopped , he added. Anywhere a citizen turns , he is faced with misery , distress, hardship and untold suffering while the President and his regime are only obsessed with power and its perpetuation using every deception , violence, , repression and oppression  possible including election frauds and even improvisation of laws, he noted.

 
Name one sector of the Govt. which has done any service to the people  - education , health , finance , administration. They  are all in an abysmal mess. What is most distressing is  the Govt.’s incapacity to find solutions or answers , he lamented.
