Lawful House dwellers unlawfully evicted by Govt.- UNP PC member Rahuman Print E-mail

Speaking at a media briefing at the UNP media unit today (10) , UNP Provincial Council member Mujibur  Rahuman said , gone are the days when a govt. and its officials acted adhering to the laws scrupulously , so that they make sure that they do not set a bad example to the people. Referring to the 23 houses which were demolished by the Govt. a few days ago at Slave Island, Mews street , he said , this is the first time he came across an incident where the Govt. officials had authority from the top rungs of the Govt. to act unlawfully ,openly and brazenly  to demolish those houses .

A group of President’s security contingent launched an attack on  a senior  Daily mirror Journalist Sandun Jayasekera on the 5th when Sandun was trying to cover  a  ceremony at the Cancer Hospital in Maharagama where President was the chief guest.

There was a massive protest in Parliament yesterday (5) when Speaker Chamal Rajapakse informed that the President Rajapakse had ordered the allocation of Rs. 440 billion from the consolidated fund to defray the expenses of the public service and settlement of bills / loans between April 22 and July 22.

Dikkumburage Kulaweera, a UPFA member and Weligama  Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman was arrested by the Weligama police for his alleged involvement in a number of election violence incidents at the last General elections.
