Amidst raging corruption allegations in the Transport Ministry , another disappointing report has emerged from the Railways Dept. The latter has incurred a massive loss of Rs. 4.5 billion in 2008 from Rs 2.6 billion. This steep increase is despite the railway increasing railway fares regularly. There was a 60 % increase in the fares in 2004. In 2005, there was an increase by 50 %. In addition , there had been two train fare hikes in 2005 and as late as 2008. |
