President`s greed knows no bounds - 4 important Ministries and 78 Institutions grabbed by him Print E-mail

In the newly formed Cabinet , four vital Ministries and 78 Institutions coming under it have been grabbed by the President . The four Ministries are the Finance; Defense;, planning and Highways ; and Ports and aviation services .Some important Institutions where there is a lot of money flow like the Telecommunication regulatory Commission which was earlier under the Ministry of telecommunication too has been brought under his fold.

Govt. rooks the people –Govt. expenditure exceeds projected expenditure by a colossal Rs. 77 billion ! Print E-mail

Chief Govt. whip Dinesh Gunawardena revealed in Parliament that in the 2009 budget , the Govt.’s expenditure exceeded the projected figure by a massive sum of Rs. 77 billion. The Govt. has presented 23 supplementary estimates in the first ten months of 2009 and collected these sums.

Railway losses and Govt.’s burdens on the people are eternal Print E-mail

Amidst raging corruption allegations in the Transport Ministry , another disappointing report has emerged from the Railways Dept. The latter has incurred a massive loss of Rs. 4.5 billion in 2008 from Rs 2.6 billion. This steep increase is despite the railway increasing railway fares regularly.  There was a 60 % increase in the fares in 2004.  In 2005, there was an increase by 50 %. In addition , there had been two train fare hikes in 2005 and as late as 2008.

The Govt. refusing to allow the Opposition MPs who are  the people’s representatives to visit the IDP camps is a breach of privilege , stated the UNP in Parliament 9th oct.
