In the latest incident in the series of intimidation and harassment of Buddhist monks , when monks were abducted by a group of thugs allegedly with police protection ,the monks have lodged a complaint with the human rights commission  (HRC)  yesterday (7).

SL's human rights record wreaks havoc to country's detriment Print E-mail

It is only recently Sri Lanka was refused the GSP + concessions by the European Union (EU)  for its putrid human rights violations record .  The Govt. which took a tough stand against the EU  decision and strongly defended its position claiming that EU was unfair , finally sent a high profile delegation to plead with the EU to grant the concession on the ground that it would set its human rights record right.

ImageUNP and Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe regretted that the Govt. is meting out inhuman treatment to a great War Hero , when it should be lavishing all the medical attention on him. Need the Govt. be reminded that the illness of Gen. Fonseka has its origin in the war he fought and won for the country ?. He did not fight a war for his family or himself , he emphasized.

Ban Ki Moon undeterred by SL Govt.`s objections Print E-mail

UN secretary General Ban KI Moon addressing a news conference on the 16th scoffed at objections raised by SL against his decision to appoint a panel of experts to investigate alleged SL’s human rights abuses during the civil war. He emphasized that he was within his authority in taking such a step. The panel will be appointed without delay, he added.

HRC insists on independent investigations into allegations against Gen. Fonseka Print E-mail

The Director of the Human rights Commission of SL (HRCSL) , Samanthi Jayamanne insisted that an independent investigation team be deployed to investigate the allegations against Gen. Fonseka who is now under detention.
