The need for a political solution has not been diminished because the LTTE was defeated, said Prof. Tissa Vitharana , Minister of Science and Technology at a public gathering on 13 th July. He also warned against those who oppose the implementation of the 13th amendment, asserting that it could lead to another armed struggle. |

Martin Sturzinger , a Swiss expert in charge of peace programs for SL and Nepal is of the view that the defeat of the LTTE is not going to open the door to reconciliation . The Tamil Tigers have lost their power to fight as a military Force , but they still have the support of the Tamil Diaspora . It cannot be fully ruled out that the LTTE will not reorganize as a political Force outside SL and launch guerilla attacks , he stated. |

Though the Govt. is claiming a military victory against the Tamil rebels , peace in SL is far from being won, said Norway’s Minister of environment Erik Solheim. Norway was responsible for brokering a ceasefire in 2002 between the SL Govt. and the Tigers. |

The National Secretary of CPI , D. Raja yesterday (8 Mar) , demanded the Indian Govt. to stop all military aid to SL . Describing the situation in SL as grim and that there is a huge humanitarian catastrophe said , large numbers of refugees are dying in starvation. |
