UNP Dep. leader Karu Jayasooriya addressing a media briefing today (17) at the UNP media unit said, the Executive Presidency was introduced by former President J R Jayawardena so that it will be a boon to the country, and it continued to be so during the regimes of the UNP . However , after 1994 , with the change of the UNP Govt. , as there were ominous signals of this sweeping power being abused by the subsequent Presidents starting with Chandrika Bandaranaike, there was immense agitation from political parties and all sections of the people that this Executive Presidency shall be abolished. |

The much hyped Indian International filmfare academy awards ceremony towards which the Govt. and its Organizers spent over Rs. 100 million to make it a stupendous success began and ended as a damp squib . The main actors and actresses , Amitab Bacchchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Amir Khan , Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif , Priyantha Chopra and music director Rahman were notable absentees. |

Addressing a media briefing today (4) at the UNP media center , UNP M P Rosie Senanayake , said , the IIFA awards ceremony was made a failure because of the Govt.’s own weaknesses. Not only the local fans were disappointed by the refusal of the popular actors , Shah Ruk Khan , Amitab Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai to participate at the event , the whole country has suffered a loss because the country’s revenue on ticket sales was impaired. |
